Sumeet SirInterview for SRJMB, life and fan

You dressed up as a woman in the show recently. What is the fun part of that?
Nothing really. I am tired of dressing up as a woman. I have done it numerous times and have been told that people want a repeat because I do it so well. I don’t really enjoy it but when it is needed, I don’t cringe away from it either. I am amazed that women have to wear so many clothes and the hard part is that it takes so long to get ready.
Do you think having a dedicated channel to comedy like Sab is a boon or a bane?
Boon for sure. It helps a lot to have a dedicated channel for comedy. Sab has done wonderfully since they opted for this plan of action. Now the viewers know when they want to watch comedy, they can tune into Sab which has become synonymous to comedy. When a comedy show is on this channel, it will surely get more eyeballs and trp than if the show was on another channel. On Sab, we cater to all kinds and varieties of comedy. It is like going to a mall and getting everything under one roof. Moreover, other channels hardly have comedy shows. I feel had Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai been on Sab it would have had more popularity.
Which would you say has been your best work to date?
Saying my best is yet to come sounds cliché, but that is true. Every time I take on some project, I give it my best and always feel there is more I can do. Then the next project comes along and challenges me. But I have to say Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’s Saahil was my most popular character ever.
You even have a show on the internet? Tell us something about it?
Jai Hind has viewers from all over the world. It is the World’s first full format TV show to air exclusively on the Internet and we crossed 100 episodes and completed one year in August. It is a bi-weekly late night comedy show which has garnered rave reviews and over 30 million viewers. Web based content is the one of the strongest emerging mediums with a worldwide reach. It is a marvelous way to reach out to people.
How was the experience of hosting Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa?
Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa was fun and a different experience as I had never hosted a reality show before. Being on the same platform as Madhuri Dixit and Malaika Arora Khan was splendid. I made new friends and over all it was a positive experience.
Did you enjoy handling the green room or hawa mahal as it was called or did you want be on the floor like Mona?
Not at all. I was fine being up there. It was fun talking chatting with everyone. Mona is a friend who did a good job of hosting.
Did you have any Marathi connection with Madhuri?
Of course. We both went at it yapping away in Marathi. She is such a lovely, humble and down to earth person that I wish there were more stars like her.
Are you interested in doing serious roles in soaps? Have you got offers?
No I haven’t got any offers for serious roles. Guess people don’t take me seriously.
What is the best compliment you got from a fan?
I have a fan who has a blog about me. Nothing can be bigger or better than that. She has posted over 3500 pictures of me, my shows on the blog and writes about my current projects daily. Like currently, she writes updates about every episode of Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo. That is just amazing. The blog is http://sumeetraghavanblog.blogspot.com/
